LALRG meeting in Priekuli

New ideas for local development

The Latvian Association of Local and Regional Governments (LALRG) together with Priekuli Municipality organized a seminar “Seeing New Cooperation Opportunities in the Time of Crisis”. On March 16th representatives of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia shared their ideas and materialized activities in how to collaborate with young employers and to go into international activities.

Debate on nuclear power

In 2010 the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) listed 437 operating nuclear power plants in 30 countries worldwide. 188 power plants are currently operating to generate Europe’s energy demand, seven less than a week ago. The German government decided to shut down seven out of 17 power plants. The nuclear disaster in Japan has raised a new debate on nuclear power.

Making Suwalki a better place

During an international workshop on development plans for the city of Suwalki drafts of a future road system were represented. The city managed to combine all different investments and improvements into one plan. So the reorganization of roads, reconstruction of a square and the use of natural recourses were merged into a common plan for making Suwalki a better place.
