Winter in Canada can be damn cold. The more surprising is it that the idea for a Sweater Day was born in this country. “If every Canadian lowered the heat a few degrees this winter, it'd be like taking 300,000 vehicles off the road!” And this of course is not only true in Canada. Europe offers pretty warm cloths as well, just thinking of those awesome Norwegian knitted-whole pullovers. So let’s start a European Sweater Day - wear that sweater and make the world a better place for your Grandchildren.
Since 2009, WWF and Loblaw have worked toward a sustainable future, encouraging citizens to take action and reduce their personal footprint. From lowering the heat, to driving less, to choosing sustainably-sourced food, collaborative initiatives help citizens become more aware of their actions. National Sweater Day is supported through partial proceeds of Loblaw's national Charge-for-Plastic-Bags program, which has reduced the number of plastic bags in stores by 2.5 billion since 2007.
