Innovation center project kicked-off

Cesis promotes innovation

26-27 March there was a kick off conference in Cesis(LV) for the ”Vidzeme Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship”. The project is financed by the EEA grants (Norwegian financial mechanism). The project is aiming at opening a center for innovation and entrepreneurship in Cesis city. The total budget is about 1,5 mill. Euro.

Project partners are Cesis District Council, Cesis City Council, Riga Technical University and Østfold County Council. Project manager is Ms. Inga Šķendere-Drēģere.

The conference program managed to present many good examples of innovation and entrepreneurship in Norway and Latvia and also how the innovation system is build up and working within the 2 countries. It also presented statistics pointing out that both Latvia and Norway has some way to go before they reach the top 10 among world most innovative economies.
Next steps for the project is to implement arrange of activities within Cesis and some actions in cooperation between Østfold and Cesis.
After the conference was ended there was a visit to the cleaning company Tiribas Nams and to the Amatciems housing concept, an exclusive area for living in private houses. The Amatciems project project has invested 20 million euro and where people from Latvia and other countries are moving in.
