Invitation to international premier

The Fourth Druskininkai Theatre Festival

Druskininkai Theatre Festival is mostly visited cultural event in the city during a year. It lasts from the very beginning of summer until the middle of September. Organizers say that each year theatre performances are enriched by various music artists and alternative art performances.

The festival was started 4 years ago and became very successful. However, after 3 years of success the event experienced a survival problem, as the biggest hall suitable for theatre was closed. Art initiatives were saved by sanatorium “Egle” which agreed to cooperate and offered a shelter for a stage. There is a special buss taking visitors to the new temporary festival home.

According to the official festival webpage this year’s festival presents not only theatre and music. They will also introduce Europe and Lithuania’s noncommercial movie program, Dancing Theatre, Chamber Theatre, Editorial debuts and of course the “pearls” of Lithuania’s theatre this season.  The evenings will invite to indoor concerts for alternative music, singing poetry and untraditional events. Organizers say the festival is widely open for all theatre alternative genres.

The main Druskininkai Theater Festival show for this year is a common project by Lithuania’s and Georgia’s artists called “my Hamlet”. The play is created on William Shakespeare’s “Hamlet” story. This time the story will be told in “Finger Theatre” style. The director and main editor for Finger Theatre Beso Kupreišvili says “To be or not to be” is the question for people until now.

The festival is organized by Oskaras Koršunovas/Vilnius City Theatre, public institution “Culture Factory” and Druskininkai City Municipality. For the coming weekend the resort of Druskininkai presents a famous Lithuanian singer Andrius Mamontovas, debutant Alina Orlova and  Lithuania’s National Drama Theatre play “the Silk” according famous Italian writer Alessandro Baricco book.

Druskininkai is a small resort and SPA city in the Southern part of Lithuania.
